Trelawny, a parish in northwest Jamaica, presents a unique social landscape that blends a rich historical legacy - particularly its ties to the Maroons and the sugar industry - with modern-day challenges and opportunities in education and economic development.
While national youth literacy is high (approx. 93-94%), rural areas of Trelawny still struggle with "unattached youth" - those who complete school without the necessary certifications or skills to enter the workforce. In the rugged southern interior, students often face long commutes to reach secondary schools in the north.
Hurricane Melissa left thousands of Jamaican children without homes, schools, or security. Our 2026 VBS Summer Program will focus on reassurance, emotional support, and healing. Reminding every child that they are not alone.
